Canada is seeing an increase in the number of obese adults, accompanied by increasing problems with blood pressure and diabetes. According to statistics from Canada's latest Community Health Survey, more than 17 percent of Canadian adults (approximately 4.2 million people) were obese in 2008. Over the last five years, the rate of obesity among Canadian men has increased from 16 percent to 18.3 percent; among women, the rate of obesity has increased from 14.5 percent to 16.2 percent. In the last three years, the rate of diabetes among Canadian adults has gone from 4.9 percent to 5.5 percent - an increase of about 150,000 people. In addition, the study found a significant increase in rates of high blood pressure since 2005.
