Women's Studies Film Series Focuses on Eating Disorders

Last week, the Women's Studies Department at Texas Tech featured a film series on the topic of eating disorders as part of Feed Your Body and Soul Week. After watching the film "Disfigured" on Wednesday night, university professors talked about the prevalence of eating disorders and their reactions to the movie.

Dr. Lisa Viator, a psychologist for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at the university, said that it hurt her to see the two women in the film judged solely on their appearance. "My body is part of me ... but not me completely. ... We're all programmed to have a specific body, and it's not necessarily an anorexic model. ... About 99 percent of women don't have the anorexic model body." (Source: www.dailytoreador.com)
