Miss America 2008 to Continue Work on Eating Disorders

Miss America 2008 will be handing her crown to a new Miss America very soon, but she will continue her important work speaking out about eating disorders. Kirsten Haglund survived her own battle with anorexia. In 2005, her parents sought help for her gaunt appearance and emerging health problems. Now that she has a public voice, Kirsten intends to spread the word about eating disorders and the importance of a positive body image for young women. Haglund has already met with teens across the United States to discuss eating disorders:

"I want them to see that to be successful, you don't have to be perfect, you don't have to be completely put together. You can have flaws, and you can be imperfect, and you can just be a normal girl."
